Inequality
The inspiration to think about tax and to think anything might possibly change is almost entirely a result of listening to Gary Stevenson talk about wealth inequality.
The problem Gary is fighting against is the rapid growth of wealth of the extremely wealthly and this no doubt does deserve some form of taxation beyond anything being proposed here, affecting less than 0.0003% of the population. This is one of the factors that is making it increasingly difficult for people to buy a home and with the cost of renting to ever build wealth of their own. That alone should be reason enough to consider introducing wealth taxes but additionally the proportion of income paid in tax is massively skewed towards high earners and proprotionally much less to the extremely wealthy.
Therefore we support this too. Wealth tax is consistent with the belief that people should be able to enjoy a wealthy, comfortable life by learning valuable skills, working hard, and making smart investment decisions.
